If you were asked to describe yourself in a short sentence, what would you say?
Many of us go through life on auto-pilot. As we grew, we were told things about ourselves that we believed to be true. Judgements were made, other people pushed their own impacted thoughts on to us, we were 'trained' to behave or present ourselves a certain way.
But what if you were asked to tell someone who you are; who you really are, deep down, away from the labels?
“If you take away your image, labels and judgements, who is left?”
Try this: picture yourself as you are right at this moment. Now remove your hair and your clothes - yes I know it seems weird, but many of us have an identity connected to our look. Is that really who you are? Now remove relational descriptions: sister, mother, brother, wife; next up, drop the work title if you have one and any other descriptors such as foodie, gardener, gym junkie.
Now who do you see? Connecting to our essence, seeing who we were as we were born to be, as opposed to what society shaped us to be, is a major step to living a truly #alignedlife.
The practice of Yoga asks us to be fully present for ourselves without selfishness or justification, to clear our mind from life off the mat. We are nothing to anyone else as we practice, only to ourselves. This allows us the #awareness to connect our breath with movement, to accept the challenge of a difficult pose with calm, focused patience, to decide how we choose to respond. This is our journey to #selfawareness, stripping back the layers and connecting to our #trueselves.
